"Our whole goal in starting Pretty Useful Co. was to make fun, weird, clever things that we hadn't seen out there yet. We try to be true to our name and make products that are Pretty Useful - pins that double as tiny rulers, a d20 die-turned-spinning-pin you can wear, a print that shows you how to make classic cocktails. Sometimes, though, and it's kind of a joke with us, the things we want to make just really aren't that useful. That's where our pin backing cards and their design comes in - we thought it'd be fun for our customers to have an illustrated guide to make your pins more useful: use them as cufflinks, collar pins, etc., even if the pin itself isn't technically THAT useful."
Initially, we'd been doing all our pin backing cards ourselves on a little 5x8" Kelsey Excelsior tabletop letterpress because we were committed to quality on all fronts, and wanted to avoid digital printing. But as we've grown, finding the time to produce every back has been nearly impossible. Luckily, we were introduced to Jessica at The Pin Department and she's been an amazing partner to us. The pins she produces are amazing quality, and she's always trying to help us improve our products. When we approached her about getting pin backing cards printed in addition, she hooked us up with Mama's Sauce and helped us settle on a sexy gold foil stamp and French Paper black licorice paper combo that gave us that "damn, son!" effect we wanted, without having to sweat the time we'd previously been having to dedicate to production. This pin is a limited edition run of our jacket pin, with 15% of the profits going to RAINN to support survivors of sexual violence - because what's more useful than helping people AND getting a badass pin?" - Pretty Useful Co.
